Hot Tonic

I was just making a fresh batch of this and it occurred to me I've never shared this recipe here before. This tonic is so good for many ailments. It was developed by a naturopathic physician. The ingredients have been used for centuries with powerful antioxidants and disease fighting properties. It's been known to help people with arthritis as well as many other ailments. It clears the nasal passages which makes it powerful for colds and flu.

Note that this is very spicy. You can mix it in water or with honey to make it easier to take. Though, my kids take it straight on a spoon, so pull your panties up and try it ;) Do not take it on an empty stomach.

For a three week cleanse:
Week 1: 2 TB a day with each meal
Week 2: 3 TB a day with each meal
Week 3: 4 TB a day with each meal
After that 2 TB a day is a good maintenance.

In a blender, blend up: (organic ingredients are highly recommended)
1 bulb garlic (not a clove, a whole head), peeled
1 small yellow or red onion, peeled and cut in 1 inch chunks
1 piece of fresh horseradish (about the same size as the onion) peeled and cut in 1 inch chunks
1 or 2 fresh, small hot red peppers, seeds removed and cut in 1 inch pieces
1 piece of fresh ginger (about the size of the onion) peeled and cut in 1 inch chunks
apple cider vinegar to cover (about 2 cups)

This will last 2 weeks at room temperature or months refrigerated. Shake before use.
Makes about a quart.

Homemade cough syrup

This stuff is amazing! I believe this idea originates in Korean culture and boy does it work. Make up a jar of this and put it in the fridge for when you need it, you'll be glad you did. I usually use a spoonful of this in tea, or just mixed with hot water itself, but I also give small spoonfuls straight up. I've found this is really good for those "in the middle of the night coughing attacks". I'll give the cough-er a small spoonful and it generally will stop the coughing and they can get back to sleep. It's very soothing.

Cold buster tonic

It's inevitable, sometimes no matter how well you eat and take care of yourself, you're going to get sick. Around here it's inevitable that myself and all four kids are always sick at the same time. Fun times up in here. Granted, we're blessed that it only happens once or twice over the winter. Along with a ton of freshly crushed garlic, vitamin C, vitamin D, sovereign silver, tea ,Lung Tonic and lots of rest, drinks like these help too:

In a blender combine: (I've found if my kids are sick and textures bother them, it's better to run all these through the juicer. Sometimes blended drinks make them gag when they are sick, but regular juices do ok.)
2 oranges, peeled
1 lemon, peeled
2-4 cloves of garlic, peeled
2 inch piece of ginger, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup mango, peeled and chopped
2 kiwi's , peeled
2 tb chia seeds
2 tb raw honey
Water to cover

Makes about 40 oz, in a blender.

Lung Tonic

'Tis the season for colds and respiratory problems. Hitting them naturally is a HUGE thing. My kids LOVE this and ask for more and more. Try this for any lung issues.

4 organic garlic cloves, depending on size
2 organic large red onions
2 tb of raw honey (Manuka is the best choice)
Juice of 1 lemon

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
Peel and cut onion into strips
Put onion on a baking sheet
Bake 15 minutes
Peel garlic cloves
Put all ingredients into food processor or blender and liquify.
Keep in the refrigerator covered.
If very sick, take a tb every 2 hours. Minor sickness, take a tb at every meal.
